Spiderz tweets from last week: 2009-06-05

  • Couple of ideas running round my mind, first the easy of tweeting and making new friends has put blogging on our site on the back burner. #
  • From when I began tweeting a couple of months ago and now I’ve written lesser blog posts and have got into the habit of tweeting regularly. #
  • The real difference I see is that blogging about ‘whatever you love’ is a serious job and requires at least two hours of regular time a week #
  • Whereas tweeting about whatever comes to your mind is easier and it give you that window of opportunity of being yourself. #
  • In short, I believe blogging is committing to a writing regime while tweeting is more informal and personal. #
  • Overall I miss writing some good stuff on our blog which has been taken over by my automated weekly twitter archive that’s published on site #
  • Moving on to other things, one of the greatest achievements of my life was to start Spiderz in June 2002 and a remarkable feat. #
  • This June, Spiderz is seven years old and in many ways I just don’t believe it. It’s been such a whirlwind of an enjoyable ride. #
  • During these years many things happened, some good, some bad and some that you’d not want to mention. :) It was a joyous business venture. #
  • Some more ideas on posting tweets to your blog: In the long run overall value of a well written post will surpass a tweet archive. #
  • Having a tweet archive is a good thing for your blog. It will make it more lively, updated and help you attract more followers. #
  • Now onto the Spiderz seven year story… first, we’re a successful business with a brilliant team and we are all web crazy. #
  • This was not so on June 15th 2002 when on an empty desk at my office in Emirates Towers I realized that Spiderz was a reality, a beginning. #
  • I had just rented an office with Servcorp at the 41st level and boy what an office that was - plush with fantastic furniture and artwork. #
  • This was a dream come true for me, a reality that I had chosen to live. This was my future and Spiderz rose from that empty desk. #
  • If you have ever done this before, most ideas begin like this, you have nothing but your ‘will’. You start and you believe. #
  • That’s what I had done earlier that year when I presented my business plan to my Emirati uncle and chose business over employment. #
  • The plan was a good plan yet it lacked a few things, specially I wasn’t experienced enough in handling a fully functional business. #
  • Spiderz as my uncle put it that first day, was ‘my baby’ and that is how I take it till this day, it’s part of me and that will stay forever #
  • So it took seven good years to build this business, from the time when I had no customer to over 150 customers, it’s a job well done. :) #
  • More soon…. #

  • If you’re looking for an excellent cross platform twitter client, Twirl is a brilliant one - http://www.twhirl.org/ #
  • Installing Windows 7 Release Candidate on one our laptops - Sony Vaio VGN-CR23M/P - says it’s compatible with all hardware and software. #
  • Windows 7 is still installing and so far has restarted the machine twice during installation. Couldn’t they do this just faster?! #
  • Okay, first impression on Windows 7, looks very good and behaves like better Vista. Faster than Vista a hell a lot! Good upgrade! #
  • Funny think I’ve noticed on Windows 7, Documents folder is called My Documents, so it’s back from Documents to My Documents? Back to XP? #
  • Second Vista laptop now up for Windows 7 installation, this one is a powerhouse, so I expect to see big improvements on this HP. #
  • Get your own copy of Windows 7 release candidate here - http://digg.com/u13UGr #
  • Burn the ISO file to a DVD if your drive still works under Vista! If it doesn’t extract all the files to a portable harddrive. #
  • If you’re having trouble extracting the Windows 7 ISO file, use Winrar which will help you extract everything, quite easily. #
  • Once done, run the Setup file on your harddrive and you’ll be on your way. It’s very important to check compatibility so do that. #
  • Windows 7 may require you to uninstall some software like Norton 2007 or 2008, Adobe Encore or some stuff from HP,… #
  • If it’s that important uninstall them and then find a way to get the latest versions installed back since some of those won’t work on W7 #
  • I believe W7 and it’s free trial, up until first quarter of 2010 is a nice move by Microsoft to redeem itself of the disgust that Vista was! #
  • Does my DVD drive work now? Nope, it doesn’t, Windows 7 install didn’t fix that so am I blown away? Surely, right into my iMac’s arms!!! #
  • Take it, Apple’s new PC adverts say the same, W7’s not fixed ‘yet’ and won’t be for years into the future. Windows 7 is broken! Hmm? #
  • @rkeeney96 Ever used a mac? :)? in reply to rkeeney96 #
  • Interesting iPhone 2009 rumors - http://www.i4u.com/hot/iPhone-2009.html #
  • @markveldhuis Haha, yeah, they’re keep it as close to user experience as they can! Stable for sure, prettier, fixes my DVD writer? No! :( in reply to markveldhuis #
  • Windows 7 introduces new concept of Libraries that holds your Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos. Must say Vista’s structure was better. #
  • Not the most intuitive categorization… Libraries. Why not simply call them what they are, Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos? #
  • Then, there’s these mysterious rebirths of My Documents, My Videos and My Music in the User folder. Why back to XP? Or this is XP? #
  • That’s what bugs me so far about Windows 7. Overall the visual enhancements are brilliant, some amazing wallpapers and superb interface. #
  • Haah… to call it in that funny jargon they use, it’s ‘My Windows 7′ - haha! #
  • @wildpeeta 800-WILD looks brilliant. in reply to wildpeeta #

  • RT @engadget: Next iPhone to launch July 17 with OLED display and glowing Apple logo? http://tinyurl.com/pd6n4y #
  • A lot of noise out there with the release of Palm Pre on June 6th and the rumored announcement of the new/upgraded iPhone in June… #
  • More than anything, what we need on the iPhone 3G is OS3.0 which is going to get a whole load of functionality on. That’s the real wait… #
  • @fatimamasood That’s awesome, sent you an email for the IKWYA Spiderz.com page - need this up soon - do check. in reply to fatimamasood #
  • Been so busy I’ve ignored working on our website for say two months… that’s real bad when it comes to adding stuff that helps sell. #
  • Wondering what’s the right buyer persona for web development firms? Is there one or what matters is what market you operate in? May be… #
  • Has anyone else experienced twittydays? Days when your head’s full of stuff that needs to be tweeted? #
  • There there are days when it won’t just work… it’s empty up there and you’re not going anywhere… happens to me all the time… #
  • @fatimamasood Did you survive? :) in reply to fatimamasood #
  • @Xische Not white. in reply to Xische #
  • Every now and then iPhoto ‘08 reminds me to upgrade to ‘09 and I like clicking that button to see if I can easily buy online and upgrade. #
  • And its just so silly that there’s no option to buy a download and get going… what’s the fuss about shipping the box to me??? #
  • Apple wants the lovely pack to arrive, have it unboxed and make us all feel so good about buying a top quality packaged product… #
  • That all works well as long as you don’t have users who are desperate to get the damn product, install it and have fun… ship the case too! #
  • Ship me the case on the side but hey let me get my hands on software in a fairly easy download that helps me get started… can’t wait! DHH! #
  • @wildpeeta To you too! :) in reply to wildpeeta #
  • @wildpeeta Some feedback on the McDonald’s new sandwich, it’s so rubbish. It’s so un-gourmet and tasteless… this is McDonalds KFC style. in reply to wildpeeta #
  • @wildpeeta They slapped on their chicken fillet onto a bun, used some tasteless sauce and the usual veggies and hey, gourmet disaster. Bad. in reply to wildpeeta #
  • @wildpeeta And the bun is so dry, it’s like those Burger King buns they use on the smaller sandwiches. I was disappointed… :( in reply to wildpeeta #
  • @wildpeeta So, you may market a dud pretty well and people would buy to try but they ain’t coming back for another sandwich in recession. in reply to wildpeeta #
  • Haha… ’sandwich in recession’… #
  • @Xische Any specific area of business that’s been hit? Real Estate customers are having a hard time, closing down. Ordering lower hosting. in reply to Xische #
  • Installing Windows Vista SP2 in hope that my DVD drive comes back to life after this update. Would it? I’m sure it won’t… but let’s see! #
  • @wildpeeta Think easy to clean and maintain. Not sure if they would not slip? Don’t enjoy a flimsy chair. Colored is nice, white is okay. :) in reply to wildpeeta #
  • @wildpeeta Good for me. A mix of white and greens may also work. Two whites, two greens, across one another. Colors have a positive effect. in reply to wildpeeta #
