Geo-peeker your site!

One of the quickest ways to check if a site is online is to view it from different parts of the world. This comes in handy when you’ve just updated DNS or can’t reach your site locally.

I’ve used geopeeker.com for years for these quick checks. Simply type in the URL of the site you want to check, and GeoPeeker loads a preview of the site from six different locations: California, Virginia, Australia, Brazil, Ireland, and Singapore.

GeoPeeker allows for a couple of lookups for free and there are Pro and Enterprise plans if you have a need for more frequent lookups. There’s also API access if you ever wanted to integrate your apps with such a service.

I always find it handy to share a GeoPeeker link with clients (of their sites) when they say a site’s down or unreachable. Something like, https://geopeeker.com/fetch/?url=spiderz.com where you can replace spiderz.com with your website’s domain name. Once a user clicks on the link, they see the site’s preview, generated in the form of screenshots.

And yes, GeoPeeker also shares DNS and IP information which is great for confirming DNS propagation.

So if you’re like me and work on websites all the time, bookmark GeoPeeker—it’s a tool you’ll always want under your belt.
